| The primary goal of Safe Haven Child Visitation Centers of the New River Valley is to promote the safety and welfare of children and their parents during court ordered monitored exchanges and supervised visitation.
Divorce, separation, domestic violence, drugs, and unemployment have contributed to the need for a place where estranged family members can maintain a relationship with their children in a conflict-free environment. Our goal is to protect children from witnessing or being a part of further violence, trauma and betrayal. The monitored exchange program is designed to facilitate the exchange of children between the custodial parent and the non-custodial parent, without the parents having any contact with each other. The actual exchange is done by a volunteer. The Supervised Visitation program is court ordered, and the non-custodial parent remains at the Center with the child for the duration of the visit in a room equipped with toys and electronic equipment to entertain the child/children. The custodial parent must leave the premises for the duration of the visit. The volunteer oversees the visit and takes notes of their observations, which may be used in court. |
